            NEWCASTLE UNITED JOIN RACE FOR BARCELONA FORWARD MEMPHIS DEPAY

Newcastle United are reportedly preparing to make an effort to sign Barcelona forward Memphis Depay. The Magpies have enjoyed a productive summer transfer window, signing goalkeeper Nick Pope and defender Sven Botman from Burnley and Lille respectively. Head coach Eddie Howe has also activated the club’s option to sign Aston Villa left-back Matt Targett on a permanent deal after a successful loan spell. However, Newcastle are yet to make an addition in the final third, something which is expected to change before the start of September.

NEWCASTLE: BOTMAN DEAL AGREED WITH LILLE

Newcastle United are on the verge of making their third signing of this summer’s transfer window after they agreed a deal with French side Lille for Dutch defender Sven Botman. Manager Eddie Howe has pointed out that the Magpies would be out to get deals that represent value for money and that the quest to close the gap on the top teams in the is a gradual one.

English left-back Matt Targett became the first summer signing for Newcastle United when he was signed on a permanent deal after his impressive loan spell from fellow Premier League side Aston Villa during the second half of last season. Targett joined the Magpies on loan from Villa while they were still deep in the relegation zone in January 2022 and he was a regular in the starting XI from then until the end of the season.               NEWCASTLE IN TALKS OVER £25M DEAL, OTHERS UNDER CONSIDERATION

Transfer talk surrounding Newcastle United has ramped up this week ahead of the window officially opening next Friday (June 10). It goes without saying that the Magpies will be busy this summer – with a number of incomings and outgoings expected. Hugo Ekitike deal all-but agreed

And there has been movement on potential new arrivals in the recent days with Reims star Hugo Ekitike right at the centre. In an interview France Bleu on Thursday, the Ligue 1’s club president Jean-Pierre Caillot all-but-confirmed United’s interest in the 19-year-old. He also made it pretty apparent that Reims will accept United’s offer, though a completed transfer is subject to Ekitike and his representatives agreeing terms.                NEWCASTLE UNITED TRYING TO CONVINCE LUCAS PAQUETA TO JOIN

Newcastle are once again trying to sign Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta. The Lyon ace was a target for Newcastle in January, with the new owners reportedly making a £34million bid. The Magpies were unsuccessful, and instead had to turn to another Brazilian playing for Lyon. Newcastle signed Bruno Guimaraes, and the 24-year-old has been an absolute revelation since moving to St James’ Park.


Bruno and Paqueta are best friends from their time at Lyon together, leading to calls from fans to reunite the pair on Tyneside. The Newcastle midfielder has spoke about wanting to play with Paqueta again, while the Magpies have reportedly been told it will cost £58million to bring him to the club. NEWCASTLE IN FIGHT FOR ERIKSEN

Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen has a lot of suitors ahead of this summer’s transfer window according to the latest reports emanating from the Northern Echo as it was revealed that Newcastle United are one of the English teams set to be in a battle to sign the Dane.


Eriksen has been through a lot in the last one year and it is testament to his character that the former Inter Milan and Ajax Amsterdam playmaker has been able to bounce back to become one of the best playmakers in the English top flight this season. The Newcastle United target collapsed on the field while representing his country at the Euro 2020 last summer. He was revived on the pitch after suffering cardiac arrest. Eriksen was unable to play for Inter Milan due to his medical condition and that prompted him to sign for West London team Brentford on a free transfer after his Inter contract was cancelled. NEWCASTLE LOSE SECOND SUCCESSIVE LEAGUE GAME

Newcastle United are now on a two-match losing run after a late goal from Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi gave ten-man Everton a crucial 1-0 win at the end of their rescheduled Premier League encounter at Goodison Park on Thursday night. The two-game losing run for the Magpies came on the back of a nine-game unbeaten run.


A lot of Newcastle United fans feared for their Premier League status earlier in the season, but it looks like they will retain their Premier League slot ahead of next season thanks to the abovementioned nine-match unbeaten run. NEWCASTLE EYEING THIRD WIN AGAINST SAINTS

Newcastle United are one of the form teams in the Premier League at the moment and they are on course to escape relegation to the English Championship as a result. Newcastle United struggled for positive results at the start of the current Premier League season through to the winter period of the season until the current run began on the back of the 4-0 home loss to defending champions Manchester City in December. The Magpies are presently on a run of eight games without defeat which is the longest in the division thereby moving seven points clear of the relegation zone as a result.


The Eddie Howe-led Newcastle United team have picked up 15 points from a maximum 24 points during their unbeaten run thanks to the return of five wins and three draws. They have won their last two Premier League games against Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion on the back of three wins and three draws and they can make it three victories on the bounce when they take on hosts Southampton in their rescheduled game at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Thursday night. BRENTFORD STAY TEN POINTS CLEAR

West London team Brentford still have a healthy advantage over the relegation zone despite losing their third game in a row in the Premier League. The newcomers have done well to establish a ten-point lead over Norwich City who are third from bottom but they can’t afford to continue their poor league forms after the 3-1 home loss to Manchester United on Wednesday. The loss to the Red Devils means they have taken zero point from the last nine available.

Brentford should have done better with the chances that came their way in the first half of the Manchester United game and they were made to pay for their lack of cutting edge in front of goal in the second half thanks to the attacking trio of Anthony Elanga, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford at Manchester United.

The Premier League clash between hosts Southampton and Newcastle United have been called off due to injuries and COVID-19 cases. The Premier League board revealed on Friday that the match which was scheduled for the St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday has been postponed due to the fact that Newcastle United could not provide the mandatory 13 outfield players and one goalkeeper due to Covid-19 situations and injuries. The postponement was at the instance of Newcastle United whose squad is depleted at the moment. Magpies boss Eddie Howe has not been able to work with the full complement of his players.

Newcastle United have now had two games postponed in a matter of some days. Their away game against Everton billed for Thursday night had earlier been called off due to the same reason of Covid cases and injury issues.
