The Magpies are one of several teams yet to win a game in the league this term as far as the English top flight is concerned. Newcastle United began the new league season with a disappointing home defeat to London team West Ham United having led at the halfway stage of the game. The Hammers scored three second half goals to win the game. Newcastle were beaten 4-2 by the Europa League team. The Magpies could have won their first league this season in front of their home fans only for them to be denied by a late James Ward-Prowse penalty as Southampton forced them to a 2-2 draw.Manchester United were the next league opponents for Newcastle United and they suffered a 4-1 loss at the end of the game at the home of the former European champions with Cristiano Ronaldo netting two times either side of the break. In their last game in the Premier League, the Magpies played out a 1-1 draw at home to Leeds United.
