SHOCK DEFEAT

Newcastle United suffered a shock 3-2 defeat at the hands of newly promoted Hull city at home during the weekend. It was not a result that manager Alan Pardew expected especially given that his team was coming into the match on the back of a good run of form.

Newcastle had a horrible transfer window in which they failed to get a number of transfer targets, while also having most of their star names linked with moves to other clubs. Pardew, though, has managed to get past all this and his team have started the season in a good way.

Even though they suffered an opening day shocker against Manchester city by losing 4-0, they have since recovered and have managed to win three on the bounce before losing to Hull. On loan star Loic Remy opened the scoring for Newcastle in the 10th minute. Brady, though, equalised for Hull after 26 minutes, but Remy’s goal just before half-time appeared to have given Pardew’s men just the tonic they needed to perform well in the second half. Hull, though, gave a shock of their own by scoring three minutes into the second half through Ahmed El Mohamady.

Aluko goal in the 76th minute gave the away team the lead in the match for the first time, which they kept until the final whistle.

“It’s about momentum and we’ve thrown it out of the window. We had that momentum and everyone was feeling good with a victory appearing on the cards but that is what the Premier League does, unfortunately; you have to be consistent to get the win you need. This is a place where we need to crank it up all the time and keep the pressure on,” said Pardew after the match. Newcastle’s next league match will be a trip to Goodison Park.
