James Rodriguez wants to continue playing the same way for his new club Real Madrid as he had played for his country Colombia in the World Cup.
A record transfer fee has been paid to the French club Monaco by Madrid to let Rodriguez come to Santiago Bernabeu. There has been no disclosure of the exact amount as yet, but, if there is any truth in the reports that are coming through, it’s over 100 million dollars.
Rodriguez, despite being one of the best in the world, is not going to be a guaranteed starter at Madrid as the Spanish outfit already has a front line filled with stars including Karim Benzema and the great Cristiano Ronaldo. Gareth Bale is also there. So, the Colombian youngster will have to battle for the playing opportunity, that’s for sure.
Talking to the reporters after his arrival in Madrid, Rodriguez said, “Like any other young player, I’ve also come here with a lot of hopes and dreams, but, the first thing that I need to do is to impress the management in the training sessions so that I get the chance to play.”
When asked about his fantastic run in the World Cup and being given the Golden Boot award, Rodriguez said, “It had always been my dream to be named the best player in the World Cup. It felt surreal really to achieve that feat. I would like to credit that to my fans in my motherland Colombia. I draw a lot of motivation and strength from them.”
Rodriguez struck as many as 6 times in the World Cup. He did that twice in the pre quarter final match against Uruguay.
The first of Rodriguez’s two goals against Uruguay was a high class strike and many consider it as one of the best goals to have been scored ever in a World Cup.
