LACERDA TAKES CITIZENSHIP

Edmar Halowski de Lacerda, a soccer player who was born in Brazil, but, had made taken the citizenship of Ukraine to get the opportunity to play international football, has got into trouble now as the Ukrainian government has asked him to join the military camps.

De Lacerda has spent all his life playing soccer only and he has no idea how he would be able to battle with machine gun in his hands at the border if he does get sent there.

However, according to the player, the officials of the club which he is playing for have given him a bit of a relief by saying that they would try their best to get this problem sorted for him. De Lacerda who is 34 years of age at the moment talked to the reporters yesterday about this bizarre situation in which he is finding himself into.

He was quoted as saying, “I’d definitely not thought for something like this to happen to me here, otherwise, I would not have opted for the passport. My club is obviously looking to help me, but, it’s terrible time for my close ones especially for my better half. She is extremely fearful of the situation.”

“I am a sportsperson you know. For me, battlefield is a completely unfamiliar territory. I wonder if I would be able to do anything there at all if I do get sent eventually.”

De Lacerda has been playing for Metalist Charkow for the last 6 years. He joined them in 2007 and has so far played 179 matches for them scoring 20 goals. The veteran player has even represented Ukraine national team in a few matches, 11 to be precise. He has just one international goal under his belt.
