Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has said that he remains confident of turning down the fortunes of the club despite suffering a sixth consecutive defeat at the hands of Arsenal. Newcastle have been on a very poor run of form since the January transfer window came to an end with the sale of Yohan Cabaye to Paris St Germain. The midfielder was sold to the French outfit for around £ 20 million, but the cost of rebuilding the team will be much more. The loss of one player has affected the team so much that they have lost all the last six matches without exception.
Despite this poor run of form, Pardew says that he wants to remain at the club amidst a lot of hatred from the supporters towards him and owner Mike Ashley. The former West Ham manager still has six years left on his contract after Ashley stunned everyone by offering him an eight-year contract a few years ago. This was also believed to be one of the major reasons behind Newcastle not sacking the manager when he was found guilty of head-butting an opposition player. This is also been seen as a reason behind Newcastle poor run of form, as Pardew missed a number of matches due to a stadium ban.
“They’re frustrated. We had 2,000 here tonight making this long, long trip. Although we’re playing a good team, they still expect us to win. They’ve seen us lose again and they’re not happy, and I have to respect that. But all I can do is do this job to the best of my ability. We’ve been top 10 all year. We should have performed better in this run, I know, and we’ve got to finish in the top 10. If Cardiff think it’s important for them on Saturday, it’s important for us to finish in the top 10,” said Pardew.
