Newcastle, who will be competing in the Championship next season following their relegation, are considering making a move for Arsenal defender Isaac Hayden.
Rafael Benitez, who has agreed to manage Newcastle despite their relegation, believes that his team needs an additional defender if they are to mount a serious promotion push.
Isaac Hayden, who is currently 21-years old, has spent last season on loan at Hull City, and there is news that Arsene Wenger might allow him to go on loan again this season. He is not ready to play in the Premier League, and he will definitely benefit from having some experience in the Championship again.
Indeed, Newcastle will need to replace Steven Taylor this season after the latter has informed the club that he will not be staying for another season. His contract is set to expire during the summer and has turned out a new deal from the club. There are reportedly several Premier League clubs and foreign clubs that are interested in signing the defender and so far there is no concrete offer that has been made.
Another defender that might be leaving Newcastle despite having one year left on his contract is FabricioColoccini after he has stated that he might return to his country Argentina.
If both players leave then, Rafael Benitez might find himself short on defenders and will want to make sure that they are adequately replaced before the start of the season. It is reported that he might also make a move for Steven Caulker. The latter who plays for Queens Park Rangers is an experienced defender after having played for Liverpool and Southampton. He will definitely bring some much-needed experience at the back for Newcastle, who have been guilty of conceding some soft goals last season.
